Sip It Saturday: A Double Pils and Roasted Okra

IMG_1607

Last Saturday I indulged in a few beers.  I haven't any beer in several weeks and this was refreshing.  My husband makes fun of me these days as I tend to prefer the lighter less hoppy beers.  I think it's been the heat that did it too me.  Yet tastes do change.

I had one while I chatted with Stephen while he was preparing our dinner and another with this delicious meal.

Bunless burger topped with cheddar cheese and onions with a side of roasted okra.   I'm in love with roasted okra!

Roasted Okra
Pre-heat Oven to 425 Deg
Cut the okra 1/2 in or so.  About 1/2 to 1 cup per person
Drizzle with olive oil
toss with some salt, garlic and onion powder/granules.
Cook for about 12 minutes

Sip it Saturday: Cable Car Red Wine

Cable Car Red Wine is your basic red table wine and I picked it up on a guess that it might not be that bad with a 85 rating from the Wine Enthusiast July 2011 Issue.

I found it a bit acidic at first sip. I am impatient and don't give it time to air.  Has what  I think is a very oaky smell and taste.  Not completey unpleasant.  Maybe not what I was wanting just then.   I should have picked up a Malbec instead.  Anyone have a good recommendation?

Note to blog viewers. Color is all wrong  Lighting was bad. I'm so sorry.  Felix the cat is quite upset that you can't see what a lovely blue he is.

Sip it Saturday: New Belgium Dig

Picture 248

Mr. Purple and I were hankering for a brew. I noticed on my facebook feed that New Belgium had a spring seasonal Pale Ale called Dig.   It was a lighter beer , at 5.6% alcohol that make sense, than I usually drink.  It wasn't the right pairing with the pizza I brought home for dinner.  It's some what lemon flavor was drowned by the flavorful pizza. I finished off  the beer I started and had a second with a few candy bars left over from the fried candy bars we made earlier in the day.   Yep fried candy bars. Yummy melty goodness but a little goes a long way.

But I digress the chocolate and the beer was not bad, not bad at all.  Mr.Purple thought so too.  I'll get this one again but skip the pizza and go for a light cheese and crackers maybe and some chocolate.

Sip it Saturday: Shlafly Winter ESB Ale

Winter ESB Ale was smooth, lighter than I expected and fruity.  Not bitter at all even though ESB stands for extra special bitter  Apparently ESB beers aren't supposed to be bitter despite having bitter in the name. Stephen was meh on it but I liked it.

It was nice with my chicken quesadilla for lunch.  Yum.

Sip it Saturday: Two Hearted Ale

From the shores of Gallifrey

Two Hearted Ale

Two Hearted Ale, an ale fit for a Time Lord. A two hearted ale for a two hearted  Doctor. The Tenth Doctor is my favorite.  Sadly I did not take notes on this beer.  I know that it was good and I would drink it again. Yes we got it because of the name.
